Contribute: Publishing an object does not lock it until next page refresh

In contribute mode, I edited an already published main_content. Then I selected it for publishing (not an easy guess that you need to select an object first!).

#1: there is no alert msg saying that a new workflow job was created. And when logued with John, the "Go to my task" does not list the jobs initiated by the current user. So hard to know what is happening!

#2: the content item is still available for editing until you fully refresh the page. And even if you "Edit" and "Quit" the content item. Would be perhaps great to automatically refresh the page or any other kind of AJAX call to properly lock objects once a publication is launched.
